Iceland Elopement and Weddings

Iceland is truly a magical place. Wild and free, just the way we like it. Our wonderful California couple decided to elope there. And it’s easy to see why. The  ice, steam vents, bubbling mud fields, volcanoes and endless waterfalls set the stage for their elopement. Needless to say we were beyond excited to capture their elopement as a Iceland Photographer, Videographer team.

The weather can be unpredictable in Iceland, so always have a plan B. It was early May and we had a snow storm upon arriving. Luckily the next day, the weather had mostly cleared up. Just gentle rain and misty low clouds in the horizon.
Starting at the Blacksand Suites we met the couple for their getting ready pictures. Brides mother was helping Amanda get into her beautiful wedding gown. While the groom was getting ready with the groomsmen in their own suite. They enjoyed some jokes and a quick toast before the elopement.

Here are 10 Iceland elopement tips.  Provided by the bride.

After the couples getting ready pictures, we all drove to an amazing Cave. Here their emotion filled ceremony took place. We were luckily the only people there. For their first look, Amanda’s step dad played their favorite song and set the mood. It felt like we were in the most amazing church. The acoustics were perfect and the feeling was surreal.

After their first look inside the cave, it was time for their ceremony. The bride’s uncle had the honor of being the officiant. Amanda look stunning in her gown and long flowing veil. Austin looked so handsome in his blue suit. Their love was evident as they read their heart felt vows, which left all of us emotional and teary eyed.

After the ceremony, while the fresh snow was still on the ground, we captured couples portraits outside the cave.
Next we drove to an amazing canyon. The canyon (AKA Justin Bieber Canyon) was more spectacular than ever imagined. Moss covered canyon with waterfalls took our breath away. The wind was so cold, close to freezing but the bride and groom braved the weather. Due to the weather, we were the only ones there. Here we took some of our favorite pictures.

Then it was time to get back to the hotel and celebrate. The happy couple shared a toast with their family and danced to a country song for their first dance. After that they all enjoyed a dinner at a nearby restaurant in Vik. We couldn’t wait for their day-2 portrait sessions at several waterfalls.

Luckily the next day the sun came out and kept us warm. We started at the famous Blacksand Beach, that was conveniently located close to their hotel. After the pictures at the beach, we drove  to all the waterfall locations, we had previously scouted. At one location we climbed behind a beautiful waterfall. We were amazed to see that a rainbow appeared above the couple.  I kept taking pictures non stop, while Mike was flying the drone and capturing these moments from above.

Thank you Amanda and Austin for trusting us with the location ideas and timeline scheduling. We are so honored for being included in your amazing adventure and love filled elopement.
